Nikon strengthens the XT V series with new enhancements to X-ray and CT systems for industrial inspection

Nikon Corporation has announced a range of new technological enhancements to its XT V series X-ray and computed tomography (CT) systems, further consolidating the platform as a benchmark for non-destructive inspection (NDI) of electronic and industrial components.

Available as software and hardware upgrade options, these improvements enable users to achieve higher image quality, greater inspection flexibility, and enhanced protection for sensitive components, meeting the growing demands of the electronics and high-precision industries.

Higher performance, greater accuracy

Among the key enhancements is the High Contrast Filter 2.0, a new image filter that significantly improves contrast and sharpness, enabling clear detection of internal defects even in samples with complex geometries or varying densities.

On the hardware side, Nikon has introduced several upgrades that expand the capabilities of the XT V systems:

  • Heavy Duty Tray, a reinforced platform designed to support larger and heavier samples, ideal for batch inspection and increased productivity;
  • Diamond Window, which improves image contrast across the full operating range, particularly effective for low-density or multi-material samples;
  • Low-Dose Collimator, which reduces radiation exposure and protects sensitive electronic components;
  • ESD Safety Upgrade, ensuring safe inspection of electrostatic discharge-sensitive devices in compliance with international standards;
  • High Magnification CT Arm, designed to capture extremely fine details in small-sized samples.

Added value for industry

With these enhancements, the XT V series continues to excel in applications such as PCBs, BGAs, semiconductors, microelectronics, and high-density components, while maintaining Nikon’s renowned Xi microfocus X-ray sources and advanced image processing capabilities.

For manufacturers and quality control laboratories, these upgrades translate into greater reliability, efficiency, and flexibility, reducing risk, improving defect detection, and supporting critical decision-making throughout the production process.
