Manufacturer LK Metrology announced CAMIO 2026 R1, an update to the programming and control software for coordinate measuring machines that integrates expanded 5-axis measurement capabilities and consolidates different sensor technologies into a single interface.

Context and challenge

Coordinate measurement of complex components often requires combining different probing strategies and coordinating multiple sensors. Earlier CAMIO releases already supported tactile programming and scanning, but full integration of the advanced REVO probe capabilities was not fully implemented.

The need to switch between different programming environments depending on sensor type or measurement strategy increased setup time and made trajectory optimization more difficult on aerospace, automotive or free-form surfaced components.

The solution or technology

CAMIO 2026 R1 introduces full support for the Renishaw REVO 5-axis tactile probing system, including simultaneous 5-axis motion, geometric and complex surface measurement strategies, 5-axis head touches and continuous scanning.

The interface has been redesigned with a unified measurement tab that aggregates tactile, scanning and laser workflows into a single space. The Teach Path feature allows uninterrupted switching between sensors and strategies, while the Automatic Watch panel keeps critical program variables visible during editing.

The software provides online and offline programming with full simulation, new 5-axis scanning strategies with edge compensation, and automatic trajectory planning tools. The Zoom to Feature function speeds navigation in large programs.

Industrial applications

The solution targets industries that work with complex-geometry parts, notably aerospace, automotive and moulds. Parts with free-form surfaces, deep cavities or hard-to-reach features benefit from optimized 5-axis trajectories.

The unified environment simplifies programming inspection routines that combine tactile measurement of geometric features with surface digitization and laser verification, without reconfiguring the interface or exporting data between modules.

Results and benefits

According to the manufacturer, consolidating workflows reduces programming effort and increases effective utilization of the CMM. Pre-simulation and automatic trajectory planning minimize collision risk and optimize cycle times.

Continuous visibility of critical variables and simplified navigation between features reduce the likelihood of errors when editing complex programs. Native integration of REVO capabilities removes previous limitations in advanced tactile probing strategies.
