NM3D IBERICA was present at the BIKiNNOV Open Day, an initiative dedicated to technological innovation and knowledge transfer, which brought together companies, researchers and industry professionals in an environment of sharing, technological demonstration and collaboration between the scientific community and the business sector. The event focused on additive manufacturing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and computed tomography (CT), technologies that are increasingly critical for validation, qualification and quality control in demanding industrial contexts. Throughout the day, participants were able to attend specialized technical presentations, learn about real industrial application cases and visit BIKiNNOV's laboratory facilities, promoting knowledge sharing, qualified networking and the development of new synergies between companies, R&D centers and technological institutions.

The solution or technology

NM3D IBERICA's participation featured a presentation by Nuno Amaral, Area Sales Manager at NM3D IBERICA Portugal, who presented the session "Inside 3D Printing: Computed Tomography in Part Validation". During the presentation, it was demonstrated how X-ray computed tomography enables complete and detailed analysis of the internal structure of parts produced by additive manufacturing, making possible dimensional validation, detection of internal defects such as porosity or inclusions, and evaluation of component reliability and integrity, without compromising the part. The session highlighted the role of non-destructive CT Scan inspection as a critical tool in the validation, qualification and certification processes of 3D printed parts, especially in sectors where quality, traceability and repeatability requirements are increasingly stringent.

Results and benefits

Nuno Amaral's presentation reinforced the importance of integrating advanced inspection and metrology solutions into production workflows, enabling companies to reduce risks, optimize processes and make more informed decisions throughout the product lifecycle. The BIKiNNOV Open Day was integrated into AM2R – Mobilizing Agenda for Business Innovation, specifically in Project 111 – AM2R Technology and Innovation Center, funded by PRR and the NextGenerationEU Fund, underlining the strategic role of these initiatives in strengthening the national innovation ecosystem and the technological capacity building of industry.

How NM3D can help

NM3D IBERICA congratulates BIKiNNOV, the organizers, speakers and participants on the success of the event and reaffirms its commitment to technological innovation, knowledge transfer and continuous support to industry, providing metrology, computed tomography and non-destructive inspection solutions aligned with current and future challenges of the industrial sector.
