NM3D IBERICA took part in the BIKiNNOV Open Day, an initiative dedicated to technological innovation and knowledge transfer, bringing together companies, researchers, and industry professionals in an environment focused on collaboration, technology demonstration, and bridging the gap between scientific research and industrial application.
The event focused on additive manufacturing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and computed tomography (CT)—technologies that are increasingly critical for validation, qualification, and quality control in demanding industrial environments.
Throughout the day, participants attended specialized technical presentations, explored real-world industrial applications, and visited BIKiNNOV’s laboratory facilities, fostering knowledge sharing, high-value networking, and the development of new synergies between companies, R&D centers, and technological institutions.
NM3D IBERICA presentation focused on non-destructive inspection
NM3D IBERICA’s participation included a presentation by Nuno Amaral, Area Sales Manager at NM3D IBERICA Portugal, entitled
“Inside 3D Printing: Computed Tomography in Part Validation.”
During the session, Nuno Amaral demonstrated how X-ray computed tomography enables a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the internal structure of additively manufactured parts, supporting dimensional validation, internal defect detection—such as porosity or inclusions—and the assessment of component integrity and reliability, without damaging the part.
The presentation highlighted the role of non-destructive inspection using CT scanning as a critical tool in the validation, qualification, and certification of 3D-printed parts, particularly in industries where quality, traceability, and repeatability requirements are increasingly stringent.

Nuno Amaral’s contribution emphasized the importance of integrating advanced inspection and metrology solutions into production workflows, enabling companies to reduce risk, optimize processes, and make more informed decisions throughout the product lifecycle.
The BIKiNNOV Open Day was part of the AM2R – Mobilising Agenda for Business Innovation, specifically Project 111 – AM2R Technology and Innovation Centre, funded by the PRR and the NextGenerationEU Fund, underlining the strategic importance of such initiatives in strengthening the national innovation ecosystem and enhancing industrial technological capabilities.
