Nort3D, a company of the NM3D Ibérica Group, is part of two technology consortia led by the Technological Center for Automotive of Galicia (CTAG) to develop digitization and humanoid robotics solutions applied to industrial logistics. The SMART SCM and HUBE projects were presented in a joint technical session with BENTELER Group and EXLA, including hands-on demonstrations at CTAG's HAARO Lab.
Context and challenge
Industrial logistics faces growing challenges in traceability, flexibility and operational efficiency. Implementing digital twins enables simulation of material flows and identification of bottlenecks before physical execution, while humanoid robotics makes it possible to automate tasks in environments designed for human operators without the need to reconfigure infrastructure.
The SMART SCM project focuses on the development of digital twins and logistics traceability systems, while HUBE explores the application of humanoid robots in internal warehouse operations. Both initiatives were supported by the Instituto Galego de Promoción Económica (Igape) of the Xunta de Galicia and co-financed by the European Union under the Galicia FEDER 2021-2027 Programme.
The solution or technology
CTAG's HAARO Lab serves as a controlled environment to develop, train, validate and adapt robotic systems to real industrial scenarios. The technical session allowed participants to observe demonstrations of early use cases of humanoids in logistics tasks, as well as to view the digital twin architecture applied to supply chains.
Digitizing the logistics chain through digital twins requires rigorous capture of geometries, equipment positioning and validation of models against physical reality. Traceability involves integrating data from different sources and synchronizing the digital model with the real material flow.
Industrial applications
The technologies developed in the SMART SCM and HUBE projects apply to sectors with complex logistics operations, including automotive, aerospace, capital goods and third-party logistics. Humanoid robotics is particularly useful in picking tasks, handling small loads, visual inspection and interfacing with systems designed for human operators.
Logistics digital twins allow simulation of layout changes, testing of storage strategies, prediction of cycle times and optimization of internal routes before physically intervening in facilities.
Results and benefits
Implementing digital twins reduces the risk of errors in logistics reconfiguration projects and allows validation of solutions before investing in equipment. Humanoid robotics offers operational flexibility in variable environments where traditional automation solutions require costly structural adaptations.
Digital traceability improves real-time visibility of material status, reduces search times and facilitates integration with ERP and MES systems. Experimental validation at the HAARO Lab accelerates the learning curve and shortens the deployment time in production environments.
How NM3D can help
NM3D Ibérica, through Nort3D, supports industrial digitization projects that require rigorous geometry capture, dimensional validation and integration of metrological data into digital systems. The technical team assists clients in selecting measurement technologies suitable for logistics environments, including portable solutions for quick layout verification and optical metrology equipment for automated inspection.
3D digitization services enable the creation of reliable digital models of existing facilities, essential to feed digital twins with real data. NM3D also provides technical training for teams that intend to integrate metrology into validation and quality-control processes in a logistics context.
