Surfacer SRP, a surface roughness probe developed by LK Metrology that enables surface roughness measurement to be performed directly within a complete measurement cycle on a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
What is Surfacer SRP?
The Surfacer SRP is a high-resolution (1-micron) plug-and-play probe designed for automatic integration with CMMs equipped with industry-standard probing heads. This solution eliminates the need for separate roughness measurements — whether manual or performed on standalone equipment — allowing both dimensional and surface roughness inspection to be completed within a single measurement cycle.
The probe integrates directly into the CMM probe head and communicates wirelessly via Bluetooth®, without requiring third-party hardware or software, simplifying installation and reducing setup time.

How it works
During inspection, the CMM positions the stylus in contact with the part while the machine axes remain stationary. The probe traverses the surface being measured, capturing microscopic surface variations with high precision.
The system includes three interchangeable stainless-steel measuring modules, enabling the evaluation of a wide range of surface geometries, including:
- Flat, conical, and cylindrical surfaces;
- Concave, convex, and spherical shapes;
- Grooves and stepped features with specific width and depth characteristics.
An integrated pre-load mechanism isolates the stylus from machine vibrations or movement, ensuring stable, repeatable, and accurate results even in production environments.
